“If there is something more peaceful than peaceful it is morning time at Beech Park allotments.
As you stand there listening to the birds singing in the trees and a fellow allotmeteer bids you a cheery greeting, your seedlings are peeping through the soil and the sun beaming down on you, what more rewarding can this be.
Beech Park is situated in the heart of Clonsilla conveniently located beside the rail station where trains in and out of Dublin commute every 20 minutes or so. Much more than growing vegetables it is a very social occasion discussing with your neighbours not only the problems of your precious crops but also national and international news. We all here at Beech Park have various degrees of knowledge about the art of growing crops and are only too willing to share with others. Newcomers are most welcome where advise and encouragement on design of the allotment is always available.
We are so lucky that our own allotment is next to a retired professional Gardner and a 50 meters from a another professional never the less there are many very knowledgeable allotmenteers at Beech Park.
A tar macadam road from the rail station leads to the allotments and you are in the heart of the country. The verges are well maintained but the hedgerows and trees are left to their own devices which are full of wildlife and wild flowers. Blackberries flowering in their thorny home and different flowers intermingled among the ditches. Rabbits are plentiful and if your allotment is well fenced you can enjoy their antics and playfulness in the sun drenched pastures.
Water standpipes are conveniently laid on in every allotment. Bark Mulch, top soil, and enricher are available at a very reasonable price along with rotavators and mobile transformers. Ray the manager is constantly working on the whole site making improvements. A young man with an abundance of energy.
Each year we have a barbecue, a plant swap day and competitions for the best new and existing allotment. Another competition on the day is the best scarecrow.
Overall a wonderful place to be involved in and we look forward to our regular trips to Beech Park, we just wouldn’t swap it ..”
